Jing Diez Writes About the Thrill of Darts
Name: Jing Diez
I am just an ordinary boy from Gensan who used to play darts during my school days(1992-93)for fun only. And while playing we have some drinking sessions. I only joined the weekly competitions in 2001. I remember, some darters used to laugh at me because I uses brass darts which is a "paaman" or free, if you buy a wooden dart board. I won a little amount of cash on my first tournament, just enough to buy a cheap tungsten darts. From that time, I started joining weekly tournaments in Gensan in 2002.
I went to Manila to process my papers at the British Embassy. It toke more than a month and my papers are still in-process and we ran out of money...So, I decided to join a weekly tournament in Cubao and there I met the "BIG BOYS" in Philippine darts (Dexie Ebanez, Boy Farpan, Robert, and many others). I also met Mr. Tito Suncuya, a passionate darter and active president of Philippine Dart Association.
In the summer of 2002, there was a national open competition held somewhere in the metro Manila area (I forgot the place, I am not very good at places in metro Manila), which I competed in. I was shaking and nervous because it was my first time to join a national competition! I played under ROBSON TEAM on 4 men's team. Fortunately, we ended up in the semi-finalists in doubles with a semi-retired ROBSON player. Not bad for an amateur like me!
When I arrived in England, I went to some pubs and asked if could join in their teams. I was refused twice by other pub players and I was very intimidated. They looked at me from head-to-toe before rejecting me. Finally, I found the FORESTERS PUB in Camberley, Surrey. I was only beaten once in league and managed to help the team to be promoted. But, on the winter season, I was never been beaten and I gained some respect because of it. I took 8 trophies in 1 league!
In 2003, I moved to Leicester and continue to play darts. I was also refused or not invited to join their teams at first, but gained respect later on. Now, I am playing for super-league (inter-district in Philippines). I also played for national competition for inter-constitutional clubs in England which I ended up as a quarter finalist. Then, they also asked me to play for the inter-county league (inter-province)for this coming season. Finally, I have 18 trophies and plaques in total, for 1 1/2 years of playing darts in England!
