03/31/02 Keeping It All In Perspective...

Brace yourself. Sit down if you have to and be prepared for the unexpected. Today's column is a little different from the others but something I've wanted to say on this site for some time now. In the whole scheme of life, darts is a game, just a game, and nothing more.

No, I haven't fallen and hit my head. No, I haven't retired from the game. No, I haven't lost my mind (or my darts for that matter). I'm still the passionate darter and I doubt my interest in the game is going to wane anytime soon. That said, let me explain.

The most important thing in this life are our relationships with people, our families, our good friends and the ones we love. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter how well you've shot if you don't have people in your life who matter. I'm lucky enough to have a great husband, the best dog in the world and wonderful friends. And at the end of the day, when I lay down to sleep, these are the things that I'm most thankful for. Darts, in life, are just the icing on the cake.

Yes, even professional darters have lives outside the game. Yes, even the passionate darter has other interests as well. So remember to keep it all in perspective.

If you're lucky enough to have friends and family that you care about, take a moment and let them know. To those who celebrate the day, Happy Easter. Good luck, and I'll see you at the line.
