If you have been playing darts for any length of time, you have probably realized somewhere along the way that a large part of winning consistently is having the ability to mentally focus or get in the "zone". Of course you have to have the mechanics of the game down as well as a thorough understanding of the strategy and the outs. But once you've been playing for some period of time it all comes down to being able to hit your numbers against a tough opponent when you need to do so. We've all had those great shots in practice or when out playing with friends...but how do you "get your game head on" when you need to? And how do you prevent yourself from "choking" so that you are able to consistently win? It's a tough question and there are no easy answers. If there were, believe me, I would not only be a professional darter but I would be making large sums of money counseling other darters! My own personal goal is to figure out for myself how to be more confident and how to mentally focus when I need to. This isn't anything that someone can help me with as I think each darter needs to find their own way. Here's my experiment with hypnosis for sports improvement...
I had always wondered whether hypnosis for the purpose of sports improvement actually works. And while surfing the web one day in search of articles on the subject, I came across several sports improvement/hypnosis websites and I was intrigued to learn more. At first glance, here is what most of the services claimed to advertise:
- Maximum confidence
- Tap into the power of your own mind
- Your own personal sports coach
- Success coaching
- Goal setting and achieving
- Develop a winner's mindset and dare to be a winner
- Recognize your flaws and play smart
- Set new personal bests and be a winner
- Stay focused and win
There was no preparation involved and I woke up the morning of my appointment and bounded out of bed, excited to be going to my first ever hypnosis appointment. I had a team practice scheduled later that evening where I could gage whether the hypnosis was successful or not. Again, I couldn't wait. Would this make a difference in my game?
