If You're Old Enough to Drink, Then You're Old Enough To Think
There are times when I have to remind myself why I started and continued to play darts to begin with: I love the competition, meeting new people and skillfully winning once in awhile. That's why I still play darts but at times I have to remind myself that while the majority of darters are good people, there are a few here and there who really are not "good people". It does not matter how many Ton80s a darter can hit back to back if they are arrogant, petty, loud-mouthed, drunk, spread lies behind people's backs or are just plain old rude. It does not matter if they are a board member or they play out of the city's best dart bar. It doesn't matter if they are "friends" with all the pros or travel to tournaments every weekend or they know everyone in the darting community. If you are not a nice darter, i.e. nice person then I do NOT and will NOT have the time of day for you. I urge others to do the same. So, Get Smart...
The problem is the people who are the rudest - the ones that this column is aimed at just "don't get it" and I doubt they ever will. They continue to name-call, to spread lies, to refuse to shake hands, to purposely cheat when they know the score is wrong in their favor, to be clique-ish and refuse to practice with the darter next door or even acknowledge a greeting... well, you get the point so to speak.
So ask yourself if you conduct yourself in the manner described above. And if so, believe me, you are losing friends faster than you are making them. My guess is someday the darters in this world will see through your tired old ugly facade and treat you the same way that you are treating others. This isn't high school, this is the real world so grow up and stop being an "asshole". Life is too short and now is the time to be nice, practice good sportsmanship and treat others with respect. This means to treat other darters the same way that you want to be treated. You are not the ruler of the world and nobody really cares how important you think you are. Come back to Earth, try sincerely apologizing to those you have wronged and start being one of the good guys that real darters would be proud to be friends with.
Really.
Shoot well and I'll see you at the line.
