Darts100.com Webmaster Jason Hendrix Tells It Like It Is!
If you're a darter scouring the Internet for the best of the best dart websites then you have most likely seen the logo for the Darts100.com web site...I've added this link to my own web site in hopes of reaching the Top 100 dart websites and time will tell. In the meantime, I wondered how does this work, who started this, what is involved and who created this concept? Here is my brief question and answer session with Darts100.com Webmaster Jason Hendrix...
How did you become Webmaster of this site?
I created it a few years ago from the ground up.
Are there others involved in the creation and maintenance of this site?
Most of the site creation and maintenance has been done by me.
What other top 100 dart websites are there that you are aware of?
The only other one that I know of is the Superstars of Darts Top 100 at Darts Go Top 100.com.
Was this concept and web site your brainstorm?
I have to share some of the credit for the idea with Ricky Nickolson (Webmaster of www.The Oche.com and www.SteveCoote.com).
Why did you feel a need to create this top 100 dart websites?
We wanted to promote our own sites (Ricky's TheOche.com and SteveCoote.com and my www.EZ Chalk.com) but there was no way to easily promote our sites. We thought a top 100 would be a great way for the larger sites to send hits (via the top 100 site) to the smaller lessor known sites.
How much time a day do you spend on this?
In the beginning while programming and promoting the site I spent several hours a day. Now that it is fully operational, I spend closer to one or two hours a week on it.
Has the feedback been positive for this site?
The feedback I've gotten so far has been good.
Do you have your favorite dart websites? What are they and why?
www.EZchalk.com and www.Darts100.com of course :)
What makes a dart web site unique and interesting?
I think that is up to the individual.
Are you a darter and how long have you been playing darts?
I've been playing for about eight years now. I'm no where as good as a professional, but maybe one day!
Are you a passionate darter?
I would say so.
Where are you located at?
I'm in the USA (Birmingham, Alabama).
This is a mystery to me...how does your site check the number of visitors to these sites? Surely this must be a very memory/data space intensive kind of thing. Is this so?
Each time our graphic (using special linking code) is displayed on your site, it tells our servers to increment your counts accordingly. With larger sites using our service, yes it can be processor and memory intensive.
Does the Darts100.com web site work on an hourly and/or daily basis?
It keeps track of hits on a daily basis. It resets each night at Midnight US PST.
Are you a graphic designer or html guru by trade? What do you do for a living?
As you can tell by the site, I'm not a very good graphic designer. I'm pretty good with HTML/PHP/MySQL which are the technologies I used to develop the top 100. I work for a software company now, but Ricky and I both worked at a small internet service provider together during the initial setup.
What is the biggest misconception about this site?
I guess that would be how hits are tracked. Our site doesn't care how many people click on our banner that you place on your site (that would be kind of selfish of us, although that is how 99% of other top 100 sites work). Our code tracks the true popularity of your site by tracking how many unique visitors your site gets, not how many of those visitors you send our way.
In your estimation, how many dart websites have the graphic link to the Darts100.com web site?
As or right now, we have 233 sites that we have tracked at least 1 unique hit for today.
My thanks to Jason Hendrix for sharing the details on how the Darts100.com web site works...To register your site, go to www.Darts100.com.
